Quarantine Kidney Health
Tip 1:
Have fun staying hydrated! It can be difficult to make sure that you are sufficiently hydrating yourself during quarantine. Drinking water is important in order for your kidneys, as well as every other system in your body, to function properly (see article at the end of this post). Even mild frequent dehydration can lead to eventual kidney damage, so it’s important to drink water continuously throughout the day. You can have fun monitoring your water intake by downloading the free Plant Nanny app! Tip 2:
Stay active from your desk! How? By making a DIY standing desk! Sitting for long periods of time has been associated with a higher risk of kidney disease. Unfortunately, we are all adjusting to a new normal of sitting at our computers to continue life virtually. Try using household objects to make a standing desk! Some ideas include:

TIP 3:
Most Americans consume more sodium than recommended. Too much salt can cause high blood pressure and kidney damage. Try out these seasonings for your favorite snacks and dishes! Instead of salt, add any of the following to plain popcorn, meat, poultry, pasta, bread, baked potatoes, etc:
TIP 4:
Take active study/work breaks! According to the CDC, only 23% of Americans get enough exercise. Exercise is especially important to prevent kidney disease, heart disease, and diabetes. It can be hard to make regular exercise part of a routine during this pandemic. Try out these quarantine-friendly midday breaks:

UMCP KDSAP's Statement Regarding Black Lives Matter
UMCP KDSAP’s mission and goals are founded on the idea of serving the underserved. As we fight against kidney disease, we likewise fight for humanity and humility, believing that every individual, regardless of background, should be treated with dignity and respect. In this critical moment, we stand firmly for justice and equality and collectively work to make a lasting difference for generations to come. The murder of innocent folx like Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and many other black and brown individuals shows that systemic racism continues to pervade the institutions that govern us. We grieve with our black brothers and sisters and we condemn senseless acts of racism and violence. Complacency lacks accountability. We need to hold people accountable for their actions in order to truly combat racial injustice.
